Légion d’honneur (Legion of Honour)
The Order of the Légion d’honneur was introduced on 11 July 1804.
Its first awarding took place in a grand ceremony in the chapelle des invalides, then
subsequently on 16 August 1804 at Boulogne.
This is the most prestigious of MILITARY DECORATIONS, but it is also a civil decoration!
This medal with the large Légion d’honneur cross was mainly worn by marshals.
A silver band on golden sequins with a silver patinated metal centre and silver laminate branches..

Iron Crown
Napoleon as King of Italy, was crowned with the “Iron Crown” of the Lombard kings.
The order was intended to reward “services rendered to the crown”, both in the profession of arms and administration, judiciary, literature and the arts.
On 5 June 1805 the state consults and extraordinary deputation of the colleges established the order of the Iron Crown.
This order was originally conferred on 500 knights, 100 commanders and 20 dignitaries.
On 19 December 1807 “following the extension of the kingdom”, 15 officials, 50 commanders and 300 knights were added to this list.
At the fall of the Empire, the order remained temporarily until 27 August 1815..
