An exceptional workshop, between tradition and continuity
Founded in 2002, Uniformes d’Empire has become, over the years, a recognised reference in the artisanal making of historical uniforms, costumes and accessories.
In 2025, the workshop was taken over to ensure the continuity of this unique savoir-faire.
This transition took place hand in hand with Fabien Scaillet, founder and master craftsman, who passed on his experience, techniques, high standards and attention to detail.
Thanks to his guidance and teaching, the workshop now continues the same mission:
to preserve the excellence, authenticity and quality that built the reputation of Uniformes d’Empire.
Located in the heart of the Entre-Sambre-et-Meuse region, in Thuin, a land of historical and folkloric traditions, our workshop carries on a meticulous, well-documented craft that deeply respects the periods it recreates.
Pleased to meet you, I’m Stéphanie.
Passionate about sewing and textile craftsmanship, I took over Uniformes d’Empire in 2025, after being trained directly in the workshop by its founder, Fabien Scaillet.
Over the months, I learned his techniques, standards, methods and sense of detail. Today, I carry on this rare savoir-faire, with a constant commitment to historical accuracy combined with a modern, rigorous approach.

Every uniform made in the workshop passes through my hands, from the first sketch to the final stitch. This is the strength of Uniformes d’Empire: artisanal work that is authentic, precise and deeply human.

Our work is based on documentation from museums, technical publications, private collections and original period pieces.
Historical accuracy is always our priority, down to the smallest detail.
Passementerie & Belgian craftsmanship
The workshop continues the savoir-faire of the former Passementerie De Backer (Brussels):
braids, soutache, bullion, cannetille, cords, tassels, aiguillettes…
The materials used are noble: wool broadcloth, cotton, silk, pewter, gilded or silvered metal.

Since 2002, Uniformes d’Empire has been commissioned by re-enactors, folkloric companies, cultural productions and performing arts organisations in Belgium and abroad.
Over time, the workshop has built a solid reputation: historical accuracy, lasting quality and attention to detail.
In 2025, the workshop was taken over to ensure the continuity of this expertise.
The transition was carried out smoothly, respecting the methods, techniques and standards that established the reputation of Uniformes d’Empire.
Today, the workshop pursues the same goal as at its beginnings:
to design faithful, refined and durable historical pieces, with professional and human support.
